Vancouver’s newest parking lot donates all parking proceeds to low-income housing and tenant support.
Vancouver, B.C. (July 6, 2017) --- Drivers in Vancouver now have a reason to look forward to paying for parking. As of July 5th, the parking lot operated by Community Builders on Howe Street, has 100% of their proceeds go towards the operations of low-income housing and tenant support programs.
To kick off the official launch, PayByPhone Technologies Inc. will be giving back to the community by matching all parking payments made within the lot on Tuesday, July 11th. A street team will also be on-site to collect additional donations for the cause.
Community Builders has been active in Vancouver for 14 years, serving individuals who are at risk of homelessness, have untreated medical issues and are unemployed. Initiatives that will directly benefit from the lot include Community Builders’ Whole Life Housing program, which provides individuals with housing, along with services such as addictions support and on-site breakfasts. The goal is to guide participating tenants into independent living.
“We offer housing with minimal public money to support Vancouver's most vulnerable,” said Crystal Wiebe, Executive Director of the Community Builders Foundation. “The revenue from this endeavor will allow for sustainable operations at the supportive housing facility running at this address, in addition to creating a low-barrier employment opportunity for residents at our facilities."
For those wanting to give back while they park, the Community Builders lot can be found at 1060 Howe Street and is open 24 hours, 7 days a week with a capacity of 40 cars at a time. For more information about Community Builders and their programs, please visit: communitybuilders.ca
