Make the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival the best yet with these top tips

Downtown Galveston. With the Shrimp Festival being one of the City’s annual highlights, navigating parking is expected be challenging due to high demand and limited availability. Here are some top tips for simplifying the journey to the event:

1. Arrive early! Give yourself plenty of time to get there and to park. Arrange to meet friends and family early so you can avoid any traffic congestion, arrive relaxed and ready soak up Galveston’s famous atmosphere.

2. Plan your route. Know what your journey looks like - what route you’re going to take, and what you’re going to do.

3. Share the journey. Travel with friends and family so there’s only one car to park.

4. Check where you park. Always make sure that you have entered your license plate information correctly and chosen the right location number when you park so you can avoid getting a parking ticket.  

Here are the top five parking spots for the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival and how far they are from Saengerfest Park:

1. There’s lots of on-street parking available along Strand Street. If you can find a space near the corner of Strand Street and 23rd Street, then you’re right on the venue’s doorstep, less than one minute’s walk.

2. Parking is available on-street on the corner of 24th Street and Postoffice Street. This is ideal if you want to get onto Gulf Freeway after the event, and it’s only a five-minute walk to the park.

3. Mechanic Street, between 21st Street and Kempner Street, offers good on-street parking and is only a short three-minute walk to Saengerfest Park.

4. To the East of the venue, you’ll find on-street parking spaces on the corner of Market Street and Moody Avenue, but don’t worry, you’re still only a six-minute walk to the festivities.

5. If you want to head to the Seawall at some point, park on the southern-most points of Downtown’s 24th Street, 23rd Street, Kempner Street and Moody Avenue, before you hit Church Street. But even parked at these spots, you’re still less than a 10-minute walk from Shrimp heaven!

Parking in Galveston Downtown is enforced daily between 9am and 6pm, Monday through Sunday , so ensure you are set up for success before you start your journey.
