We’ve Shaken Things Up: Meet Roamy Valera

The Internationally Recognized Parking Industry Leader Joins PayByPhone as CEO, US and Canada


We sat down with Roamy Valera to discuss his new position on PayByPhone’s leadership team, key priorities on his agenda, and the future of mobile parking payments.

What about the opportunity appealed to you?

It is an exciting time in the parking and mobility space and PayByPhone is one of the companies that is poised to do greater things. I have known and worked with the company since its early beginnings in South Florida. I connected well with Andy and the executive team and loved the energy and enthusiasm of the entire PayByPhone family. Furthermore, the technology platform and the clients are all very exciting and attractive for me. When I look at the space of payment providers, I see PayByPhone positioned to increase market penetration in North America and of course play a bigger role in the mobility space on a worldwide stage. There are many opportunities.

You’re recognized as a veteran in the parking industry. How does your experience support your new role at PayByPhone? 

I have been in the industry for over 29 years. I have held a number of different leadership positions with an objective of market growth and market penetration. In several of those opportunities, the goal was around building effective teams and business growth strategies with a focus on technology and technology integration. I have always focused on people first, internally and externally. I believe strong relationships coupled with solid execution will generate effective results.

As CEO, what actions will you be taking in the first quarter of your appointment?

This is a critical period for anyone assuming a leadership position. I will be doing a lot of listening and meeting with our team, clients, business partners, and more. We have a sales organization to build, a client service team to support and many partners that are expecting greater things from us. The objective will be on the execution of our vision and mission and I will focus on building the foundation for us to be successful.

What do you feel are key priorities for the US and Canadian markets?

We understand the conflict that exists for the “curb” in many of our cities and we will be fully engaged in the creation of solution-based products and services, in addition to resolving the challenges associated with off-street parking and permitting. My goal is to lead a team of subject matter experts with a collaborative approach. The focus will be on increasing adoption rates of every single one of our clients and increasing our market penetration by understanding the many opportunities that are available for PayByPhone.

How do you envision the future of mobility, and what role will mobile payment technology play?

There are many interests trying to define the marketplace and what “mobility” is, but the true definition of mobility will be provided by cities adopting technologies and policies focusing on a frictionless consumer model.  We want consumers to be able to decide how they start and end their trips, in addition to selecting a mode of transport they use to complete these trips. The payment platform will be at the centre of the entire process.
